Home Baseball Game- RIC vs. Brandeis

Last Thursday (April 3rd) I went to the home game for Baseball. They won 3-2.

Former NBA Star Chris Herren Speech

I went to the speech from Chris Herren. It was really good and shocking to hear about his life and how he had money and all and lost it because of drugs and alcohol. It was really sad and I think it was an eye opener to a lot of kids who went. He let his own kids and wife live and grow up around that environment and that's not okay and he regrets it. It shows how hard addiction is to overcome but he brought up good points about how he dealt with it and everything that had happened to him through his life. I think the speech makes college students rethink about what they put in their body and the decisions they decide to make on thursday, friday, and saturday nights in college.

RIC Event-Basketball Game

I attended a RIC basketball game tonight and got a free bobble head for being there.

Family Photo

This is a photo of my mom, my brother, and I. We're sitting in a pink lawn chair and the shadow of my dad taking the picture is in the background holding my phone. My brother has a snapback hat on and shorts and a t-shirt. I'm wearing a grey sweatshirt and jeans. My mom has a long sleeve black shirt on. In the background theres grass, trees, and some plants/ferns. We're all smiling and squinting our eyes because of the sun. There's lots of shadows in the back left hand corner of the picture and there is a plastic sheet behind my brother's head in the picture, which he uses for shooting hockey pucks.

Outside of the photo, my dad is standing behind the camera and my dog is probably there. My house and the deck to it is behind where my dad is standing and the rest of my family is there because we were having a party that day. There is also a garage that isn't attached to my house and cars were parked in the driveway. My brother's hockey net is outside the picture and lots of trees are in my backyard but they are cut out. I have a fire pit and seating area in my backyard as well. The bike path is also in the back of my house and people pass by all the time riding bikes, walking, running either with kids, by themselves, or with dogs.

This is one of my favorite photos of my family, even though my dad isn't in the picture. I remember the day perfectly and we actually had my whole family at my house that day because it was Mother's Day; that's why the picture is only of my brother, my mom, and I. This picture is so spontaneous and we didn't even mean to take it because none of us were "ready" when my dad took the picture. Every time I see it, it makes me laugh and takes me back to summer (or the beginning of summer) when life was easy and stress free from school.

Not So Little Brother Anymore

A pain in the neck, and he drives me crazy
We might fight and fuss but I still love him through it all
Even though he gets on my nerves, he always has a way to make me laugh
I remember when he was little and I'd help him when he would fall
As my younger brother, I've seen him tag along side me and grow up beside me
We've made many memories and we have more to come...

Does Taking Photos Impact Memory?

I think taking photos impacts your memory a lot and how you remember certain experiences/events in life. The most important and special moments are captured through a camera and they're saved to help one remember that day and go back to it. Good, bad, or embarrassing the memories are saved for me to go back and laugh at the times I've had. I love being able to remember where I've been and who is most important to me. Pictures remind me who is important in my life and the people who have always been there for me. Every moment has impacted me in some way good or bad and has reminded me of how much I love my life and they people who have lived it with me.

My Senior Prom, definitely a night to remember(:

How does perspective change the way you "see" yourself?

In class today we took pictures of ourselves doing portraits in different points of view. We learned about the Rule of Third's and how a certain position can change the way you view a picture. I chose two views to post which are the worms eye view and the normal eye view. Worms eye view is a view of something from a lower level and a normal eye view is at your normal eye level. The first picture I chose was worm eye view because it shows that the photographer was looking up at me from a lower level and I was standing off to the side in the picture. The second viewpoint I chose was a normal eye view that is taken at the same eye level as the photographer. It's a straight on picture and is more boring than looking at the one that is off to the side.

The way I'm positioned in each photo changes the way you look at them and how you feel about them. My body language changes in each picture. In the black and white one, the way I'm standing with my back to the camera makes it more intriguing and question what's happening in that picture. In the colored picture, there is nothing interesting to look at besides my sweatshirt, but that tells nothing about me or the picture. What I do like about the picture though, is that you can tell I'm smiling in it and that I'm proud to wear that sweatshirt. In the black and white one, you don't know how I'm feeling because my face is hidden. While taking pictures you should think about the Rule of Third's, which is basically like imagining that the image you are trying to take is split into 4 different parts. Each part of the image should display a point of interest in your frame. Placing an object or person into a different position or viewpoint can change the way we view the picture.

Assignment #2- Titian Picture

Venus of Urbino

In class we looked at two pictures that we had to observe and give our ideas and thoughts about both images. It was to show how each person views the same picture in a different way. We each spoke about different details we viewed in the image from facial features and postures to objects and the colors of the painting. We all look at things differently and it's based on how our brains work and how we see things.

The painting I chose is Venus of Urbino, painted by Titian. In the picture I see a naked woman that could possibly be pregnant. She has a braid in her hair and she's holding grapes. It looks like she's laying on a couch with sheets over it and there is a small dog laying or sleeping next to her. In the background of the picture there looks to be a sunset in the window and its almost as if there at a tropical place because the trees in the window look like palm trees. There is also, what looks to be a child kneeling with her head down like she is being scolded or she is crying. She also looks like she has darker skin. The lady standing next to her is all dressed up and could be a nurse, or caretaker. She is standing over the child and rolling up her sleeve as if to punish the child. Also, the room they are in looks very fancy and expensive. It seems like the naked lady is of higher class because of the way she is laying and her facial expression.

After analyzing the painting, I felt strange and uncomfortable by it. First, because she has no clothes on and because the painting makes it look like she is the most important one there and she is the only one who should get noticed. It almost makes me feel like I have less "power" than her, like she is above me.  The painting also makes me feel bad for the girl kneeling in the background because I feel like she is getting disciplined for something.

In the painting, three things grab my attention. First, it's the naked woman's facial expression. Her head is down and she looks relaxed like nothing in the background is happening or that she doesn't even care about it. She has a sly smile like she knows something is about to happen. The next thing that caught my attention was the dog laying on the bed. I feel like the dog looks scared, almost like it is shuddering after hearing a loud noise or being hit. The way the dog is positioned makes me think that it's afraid of something. Lastly, the girl kneeling in the background. I feel like she is of less importance than the naked woman on the bed yet, I looked at the girl kneeling first because of the way her body language is.

In conclusion, I feel that this image shows power, strength, and validity in who is most important. It shows that the naked woman on the couch is in control of the girl in the background and she doesn't even seem to care about what is happening.

Assignment 1

How do you use online photography?

I use online photography through social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and sometimes through Twitter. On Facebook, I mostly post pictures of friends and family, either of us on vacation or in the summer, or events such as my graduation, confirmation, prom, etc. Instagram is the one I use most often. I post pictures of everything on there from baby pictures of me to food and of family and friends. I like Instagram because it keeps all my photos together into one app and if those pictures ever got deleted from my phone, I could just log onto Instagram and they would still be there. Tumblr is a basically like a photo blog I use to post and reblog pictures that other people have posted of anything random from food, to random types of scenery, or of clothing, etc. I use these social media sites all the time and they are private but people I'm friends with can see all of my pictures that I've posted.
